When one is making a vodka recipe, it is nice to consider the source, which is that vodka actually comes from grains or potatoes. When you think about this, it is easy to come up with some nice vodka recipes by imagining in your mind what goes really well with potatoes. Because anything goes when you are making a mixed drink recipe -- just ask your local bartender. I have gotten frozen vodka recipes with 3 to 5 blueberries, 4 ml of soy, and half a cup of pure lemonade concentrate. That will wake you up. The vodka recipes of today are often initially made in cocktail shakers. This way you can take your recipe -- a slice of lemon, a granule of pomegranate, throw in some cherry juice, and some hard Russian Vodka to top it off -- and impress the guests. Try the "Night Rider": This is 3 shots of Russian vodka, 1 cup of milk, 4 ounces of crushed pineapple, all rolled up in a cocktail shaker for good measure. One of the oldest mixed vodka recipes comes out of Russia, called "The KGB Spy". Pour into a martini shaker 2 shots of vodka, 3 shots of melted candy cane, (you can do this over your stove), 1/2 cup of almonds, (ground up), and 1 cup of chocolate. This is a pleasant drink especially when heated or around a Christmas fire. Many mixed drinks like these slowly evolve over time, and I think this is because of the fact that vodka comes from potatoes, which have their lineages in places that have undergone famines, which makes people create unlikely recipes. Many of the vodka drink recipes I know are cosmopolitan in their nature. This means that you can take a cantaloupe, hollow out the inside, and pour some Russian vodka mixed with Coke and cherry syrup in the center, and fit in with the rich nouveau. The bourgeoisie take their cocktail recipes a step further by sipping their vodka drink recipes out of the husks of dandelion stems. This makes one in tune with nature or feel like they're contributing to a good cause while bartending to a host of like-minds. Here are some more great vodka drink recipes to wet your palate. The Aztec Golden Mill is made of 1 oz Absolut, 1 oz of Jose Cuervo Gold Tequila, and 1 oz of soy milk with a touch of butter rum. The banana-ramo milkshake is made out of 1 oz of creme de la banana, 1/2 oz of creme de la cocoa crispy that is crunched, and 2 drops of yellow frosting from concentrate. This will wake up your palate. You can always substitute bananas for peach juice or peach juice for one drop of vinegar mixed in water. The bloody Caesar is an old time vodka drink recipe that everyone knows. But have you tried the bloody Brutus? Mix 2 1/2 oz of tomato juice, 3 dashes of Tabasco sauce, 4 dashes of clam sauce, and 33 pomegranate seeds for the ultimate sensation. If you really want to get crazy, highball it or put it in a Collins glass with ice. No cocktail shaker can make Russian fizz the way carbonated water can, so throw in some Coca Cola if you need a refreshing burst of energy. The Blue Planet of the Apes is a favorite vodka drink recipe that hails out of Butte, MT. Back in the days they would smuggle vodka in their moonshine underground railroads, they would mix 4 oz of vodka, 1 oz of creme de la banana, 1 oz of white cocoa, and 1/2 oz of blue coloring drops to give it the blue flavor. Blueberries work just as well for the coloring but not for the taste. Some of the smugglers in Butte were known to put the vodka in water balloons and then put them on the backs of little wagons so the town sheriff actually thought they were water fighting on hot summer days. Some people don't like Dirty Blondes, but I do with my vodka drink recipes. Mix 2 oz vodka, 1 oz Johnny Walker Gold Label, and 1 oz Drambuie for a special overnight stay in Las Vegas. Combine these ingredients in a mixing glass and then throw in one long banana, and the Dirty Blonde will be screaming. Put some ice on it to cool down, and shake it, then stir it all around making this the best cocktail of your dreams. I prefer the Dirty Blonde over the Spicy Mary.  |
